Key Programmes

Following strategic programmes are implemented for the achievement of the objectives by the Department of Meteorology, Disaster Management Centre and the Human Rights Unit of the Ministry.

1. Preparing a 10 year plan called "Road Map for the Mitigation of Disaster Risk" for the Disaster Management of Sri Lanka. (109 projects have been identified to reach this goal).
2. Preparing and Implementation of District Disaster Preparedness Plan.
3. Issuing Early Warning Messages.
4. Holding Awareness and Training Programmes relevant to Disaster Management.
5. Co-ordination of Public Complaints of violations of Human Rights with relevant Institutions.
6. Provision of necessary assistance to the Institutions in the country which protect and promote human rights.
7. Rendering of assistance to awareness and training Institutes in the field of human rights to uplift their services.
8. Rendering assistance to activate the apparatuses that effect the preservation and promotion of human rights in the country according to the agreements assigned at with the International Organizations of Human Rights.
9. Co-ordination with all the relevant parties for provision of services at national level to afford relief to sections of the community who had been made refugees in conflicts.
